5月は外へ 美しく守るという選択
本日、西先生とのLIVEは本当に素晴らしい時間となりました。先生はこのたび、占い師としてのご功績により勲章を受章されたばかりです。
よく考えてみると、とても興味深いことです。占い師という存在が、人類への貢献として国家に認められるということ。しかし振り返ってみると、私自身もこれまで何度も占いやスピリチュアルヒーラーに導きを求めてきました。直感やタイミング、そしてエネルギーというものは、私たちの人生に確かに存在しているのだと思います。
先生がお話しされていた大切なポイントのひとつは、「5月は行動する月である」ということ。外に出て、動いて、積極的に世界と関わっていくべき時だとおっしゃっていました。
そして私は思いました…なんて完璧なタイミングなのだろうと。
なぜなら、私たちがより外に出て、アクティブに過ごすのであれば、ひとつどうしても無視できないことがあります。それが「紫外線」です。
ここからは、私にとってとてもパーソナルなお話になります。
2024年、私は自身のブランド「ninoBeauty by Rikki L.」を立ち上げました。最初の製品は「プロテキシダインディフェンス」です。日本のドクターの方々にもご紹介しましたが、当時は誰にも採用されませんでした。技術があまりにも新しく、まだ十分に理解されていなかったのだと思います。
なぜなら、これは単なる日焼け止めではないからです。私が「サンスクリーンを超えたプロテクション」と呼んでいるものです。
サンスクリーンとは本来、“焼けないようにするための膜”です。SPF50であっても約98％の紫外線しか防ぐことができず、100％ではありません。そして皮肉なことに、SPFが高いほど「もう大丈夫」と思い込み、塗り直しをしなくなる傾向があります。
しかし問題は、その残りの2〜8％の紫外線です。静かに肌に侵入し、DNAを傷つけ、「チミンダイマー」と呼ばれる変化を引き起こします。これは肌老化や皮膚がんの原因となるものです。
ここで重要になるのが、プロテキシダインディフェンスです。
初めてその研究データや臨床結果を見たとき、私は正直、ある種のフラストレーションを感じていました。従来の紫外線対策には、何かが足りないと感じたのです。そして決断しました——日本のために、自分のブランドを作ろうと。
日本で生活していると、夏になると多くの女性（そして男性も）が、手袋、マスク、帽子、日傘と完全に覆われている姿を目にします。まるで太陽から身を隠しているかのようです。そしていつも思うのです——
自分らしさを失わずに、もっとスマートに守る方法があるはずだと。
プロテキシダインは、これまでとは異なるアプローチです。紫外線ダメージから守るだけでなく、すでに受けてしまったDNAダメージの修復を、時間をかけてサポートします。
約2年間、毎日使用してきて、私はある変化を実感しています。シミが徐々に薄くなってきているのです。ピーリングや強い施術なしに。即効性ではありませんが、確実で現実的な変化です。（ちなみに、夜も使用すれば、さらに早く実感できると思います。）
こうして「ninoBeauty by Rikki L.」は誕生しました。シンプルで、フォーカスされ、科学に基づいたブランドです。
資生堂やSK-IIのような広告主導ではなく、結果と信念によって支えられています。
本来であれば今年、プロテキシダインと組み合わせるSPF製品を発売する予定でした。しかし、トピックスファーマシューティカルズがプロテキシダイン配合の新しいSPF——真の2-in-1製品——を開発中と聞き、私はその完成を待つことにしました。
今年初めには、2月のプレスイベントに間に合うと聞いていました。完璧なタイミングでした。しかしイベント直前、FedExから連絡があり、出荷がリコールされたのです。
最初はミスだと思いましたが、アメリカからの確認で、初期テストは成功していたものの、長期テストで時間の経過とともに小さな粒状化が起こることが判明し、製品は中止となりました。
急遽、方向転換が必要になりました。
そこで、前年に発売予定だった「シアーミネラルリペア SPF45」に戻ることにしました。すでにテストも承認も済んでいましたが、ラベルはなく、準備期間はわずか2日でした。
この製品は単なる日焼け止めではありません。もともとは肌修復クリームとして開発され、切り傷や創傷、ニキビ、施術後のケアにも使用されるものです。酸化亜鉛を使用しているため自然な紫外線防御効果があり、結果としてSPF45を実現しました。
そして今、システムは完成しました：
・プロテキシダインディフェンス（フェイス）
・プロテキシダイン配合アイクリーム
・シアーミネラルリペア SPF45
シンプルで、知的なアプローチ——アクティブに過ごし、外に出て、そして守るための。

I had a wonderful LIVE today with Nishi Sensei, who has just received a Kunsho—a national honor—for her work as a fortune teller.
It’s quite extraordinary when you think about it… that a fortune teller could be recognized as providing a service to mankind. And yet, when I reflect on it, I realize how often I myself turn to fortune tellers and spiritual healers for guidance. There is a place for intuition, timing, and energy in all of our lives.
One of the key points she shared was that May is a month to be active—to go out, to move, to engage with the world.
And I thought… how perfect.
Because if we are going to be outside more, living more actively, there is one thing we cannot ignore—sun exposure.
This brings me to something very personal.
In 2024, I launched my own brand, ninoBeauty by Rikki L., beginning with one product: Protexidine Defense. I introduced it to doctors here in Japan, but interestingly, no one picked it up at the time. The technology was simply too new—perhaps too unfamiliar.
Because this is not just another sunscreen. It is what I call “beyond sunscreen protection.”
A sunscreen, by definition, is a screen—it helps prevent burning. Even SPF 50 can block up to about 98% of UV rays, but never 100%. And ironically, the higher the SPF, the more people believe they are fully protected and don’t need to reapply.
But it’s that remaining 2–8% of UV exposure that quietly penetrates the skin… damaging DNA and forming what are called thymine dimers—the very changes associated with skin aging and skin cancer.
This is where Protexidine Defense becomes so important.
When I first read the research and saw the clinical data, I was honestly at a point of frustration. I felt there was something missing in how we approach sun protection. So I made a decision—to create my own brand for Japan.
Living here, I often see women (and men) in the summer completely covered—gloves up to the arms, masks, hats, umbrellas… almost hiding themselves from the sun. And I always think:
there must be a better way to protect ourselves without losing our sense of self.
Protexidine Defense works differently. Not only does it help protect against ongoing UV damage, but it also supports the skin’s natural ability to repair existing DNA damage over time.
After nearly two years of daily use, I’ve personally noticed something remarkable—my brown spots are gradually fading, without peels or harsh treatments. It’s not immediate, but it is steady and real. (And I should say, using it at night as well would likely accelerate the results.)
So ninoBeauty by Rikki L. was born—simple, focused, and rooted in science.
Not driven by advertising budgets like Shiseido or SK-II, but by results and belief.
This year, I had originally planned to launch an SPF product to complement Protexidine. However, I was informed that Topix Pharmaceuticals was developing a new SPF with Protexidine—a true 2-in-1 product—so I decided to wait.
Earlier this year, I was told it would be ready for my February press event. The timing felt perfect. But then, just days before the event, I received a call from FedEx—the shipment was being recalled.
At first, I thought it must be a mistake. But after confirmation from the U.S., it turned out that while initial testing had been successful, long-term testing revealed that the formula could form small beads over time. And so, the product was cancelled.
A quick pivot was necessary.
I returned to a product I had planned to launch the year before: Sheer Mineral Repair SPF 45. It had already been tested, approved, and ready—but I had no labels, and only two days to prepare.
This product is more than a sunscreen. It was originally developed as a skin repair cream—for cuts, wounds, acne, even post-procedure care. Because it uses zinc oxide, it naturally provides sun protection, and when tested, it reached SPF 45.
So now, the system is complete:
- Protexidine Defense (face)
- Eye Cream with Protexidine
- Sheer Mineral Repair SPF 45
A simple, intelligent approach to being active, being outside—and being protected.
